As my tenure as Lord Mayor draws closer to an end, I would have deeply regretted not writing directly to young people.

We must keep speaking up, speaking out and fighting every day. Until the deadly cuts are reversed. Until every young person in this country is safe.

Regardless of how you cast your ballot in 2016, nobody voted for this shitshow.

The NHS was there for every single one of us when we needed it most.
We must be there for it!

Coming to the end of 2018, however, my time as Lord Mayor of Sheffield has taught me two invaluable lessons: that there is always hope even in the obscurest of places, and that the need for compassion in the way we do politics, and do life, has never been greater.

The decisions we choose to make, this Christmas onwards, will be our collective fate.
